Kootenai
Our Kootenai came to us in June of 2011 as a 9 week old pup, one of a trio of sisters who had been dumped next to a highway, found and taken to a rescue organization. She was the smartest and sweetest dog we've ever known. She expected everyone to love her (and they did!) and loved everyone in return. She always got a toy in her mouth when anyone came to the house, and greeted them that way, her favorite was a stuffed elephant she won in a competition at obedience class when she was 7 or 8 months old
A wonderful hiking/walking companion, especially out in the country and around our rural home where she could be off-leash. She would run ahead but never too far, always checking back to be sure we were still coming along. When she was out on our place watching her run across the field was so lovely, she ran like the wind with those long legs and deep chest. So beautiful. She was not a hunter at all but she loved to run at birds and make them fly. Just a few weeks before we lost her she just couldn't resist running at a group of wild turkeys we have here and all 21 of the half-grown chicks took to the trees while the 3 mama hens just walked a little faster. The hens knew she was harmless.
She was a loving and dependable family member and we will miss her sorely for a long, long time.
Remembering and honoring you every day, in many different ways
Having lived in an area near Kootenai, Idaho, I loved her name right off. Funny, we weren't going to be allowed to adopt our rescue, Scooter, in 2014 until the lady who brought her approved of how she would get on with Kootenai because we said we would likely spend time at Kootenai's house. We had to bring Scooter to Kootenai's and boy did they "get along" running round and round the yard chasing and having a ball. I used to have photos but sadly, cannot find them now. RIP Kootenai. Guess I'll just post of pic of Scooter, one of Kootenai's friends.
